TD
Canada Trust is proud to partner with the Nanaimo Art Gallery as title sponsor
of the Artists in the Schools program. Our commitment to helping others succeed
includes taking an active role in the communities we serve.
Supporting the arts is one of many areas where we can truly make a difference.
Encouraging our students to learn and appreciate art by actively involving them
in a fun and educational program will foster their creative development, build
friendships and inspire confidence.

The Artists in the School Program allows teachers to schedule a professional artist
to present a classroom art session, introducing the techniques of their chosen
medium and providing a hands-on art making experience for students. Teachers can
have the artist tailor their presentation to reflect a current classroom subject.
Registration takes place during the two weeks starting mid September. School Booking
Forms are faxed it to The Nanaimo Art Gallery for schedual confirmation.
Sessions are usually one hour duration. In most cases the artist will supply all
the materials other than standard classroom supplies.

ARLESS MCNEILL |
| LANDSCAPE /
WILDLIFE ARTIST |
"I grew up in the
Cowichan Valley, just north of Duncan. It was a great place to learn to
draw. In the late70's I attended Malaspina College's drafting program. Then
came many years of wandering in the dark before settling down in Parksville
as a full-time artist working in oils, pastels, watercolours and acrylics.
By exploring cartooning/animation in my early days and drafting later, I
was able to re-invent the wheel and develop useful ways of using guidelines
to quickly manipulate images to forms better suited for the current project.
I have also taught music to children and adults for the past twenty five
years." |

MARY JO FULMER |
| DANCE, MOVEMENT
AND DRAMA TEACHER |
| “I have a degree
in Anthropology, years of training in a variety of movement forms and healing
modalities, and have been teaching and performing for over thirty years
in places as far afield as Africa, Singapore, and Japan. Wherever I go,
I am touched by the capacity of embodied self-expression to transform, inspire,
and create new awareness of the possibilities for life enhancing and community
building experiences of many kinds. I believe that the more fully we engage
with our bodies, the more fully we engage with life.” |

I obtained my B.C. Teaching Certificate. Some years of teaching followed.
I then studied printmaking in London England, where I lived, worked, and
travelled for ten years. I have also studied computer graphics with great
pleasure and enthusiasm.
My work has been exhibited in several solo and group shows since 1984, and
I have been a member of the Artists in the Schools program since 1994." |

EWA SNIATYCHKA |
| VISUAL ARTIST
AND EDUCATOR |
"I'm a very curious
person. I love to spend time exploring. In both my studio and teaching practices,
I keep sketchbook journals. These notebooks are spaces to collect images
and ideas: to experiment and take risks; to record and reflect. Drawing
gives me the time to notice details, relationships and integrate new information.
It stimulates my writing.
I have been working with children, teachers and parents since 1993. My background
is in art gallery and museum school programming, where the focus is on communicating
through collected objects; telling stories. In recent years, I have become
a resident artist in elementary schools, both in Alberta and British Columbia.
Long-term art-based inquiry projects are developed collaboratively with
staff, and focus on visual literacy with a strong drawing/writing foundation.
They include students and staff in ongoing studio development through creative
research, production and reflection around a central theme. Selected documentation
is posted on the artmobilewa blog. www.artmobilewa.blogspot.com." |

I was a professional illustrator. For several years I conducted violence-prevention

"I have been creating
art for over forty years! I love to draw and paint! I am a multi-media artist

both excitement, anticipation and peace in my life! Art is a journey to
the soul.
